5 Ways To Reuse Empty Wine Bottles

On February 18th,  it was National Wine Drinking Day ……

What did you do with all of your wine bottles?

5 ways to put those bottles to good use

1. Light them up – of course!

Whether you fill your wine bottle from above or drill a hole in the glass with a blade made especially for glass, it’s fun and easy to fill a bottle with lights.  I like to use them in these kinds of ways:

  • Plug them in on the bathroom counter for a night light
  • Accent my full and unopened bottles of wine
  • Group on any horizontal surface – entry table, piano, bookshelf

Here are a few samples:

2. Install them on a bottle tree and add some lights

Bottle trees are fun and can be purchased online and at your local craft fairs and those funky shops that have an eclectic blend of the new and the old.  (You know the shops. You’ve always wanted to stop and now you have an excuse.)

Cover the bottle tree with bottles of various sizes and colors and then add lights to make them just as impressive during at night as they are in the sunshine.

3. Make them into a light fixture

Combine Edison bulbs and single medium base pendant cord with your wine bottles, repeat a few times and hang and wire them through reclaimed wood to form a funky, rustic wine bottle chandelier.

4. Turn them into oil or dish soap bottles

Use a simple spout to turn your empty wine bottles into dish soap dispensers and olive oil and jazz up the space next to your sink or stove.

5. Paint them!

I love the look of painted objects and giving wine bottles and entirely new personality with paint is a great way to reuse them. A matt look with either spray paint or a brush on acrylic has a dramatic look.  Line them up on a mantle or in a grouping. Go monochromatic as shown
