Sometimes it’s not the light. It’s the electrical environment or issues with installation. We received this question from a gentleman and here’s our reply. If you are having issues with LED products — it may not be the lights.
(Note, he hasn’t made a purchase from us but it looks like he’s running into issues with local purchases or those made online with other companies.)
I am making some big Bethlehem stars * 8′) tall for friends. However i have been very disappointed in quality of led lights. I have used led rope light from 3 different sources and they all went bad at different point in the length of the rope!! was thinking of gong to c7lights instead. Is there commercial or industrial grade led rope and c7 lighting available that has better quality and longevity. Color would be pure white. Thanks Harry
Good morning, Harry,
You might be running into an issue unrelated to the LED lights that you have purchased so far — it’s unusual to hear this level of failure in LED products from reputable vendors.
Did the rope light go bad during install or after operation? I’m wondering if your turns were too tight for the floating connections. When you removed the rope did you attempt to straighten it out to see if that corrected the issue?
One thing that also comes to mind is that some sources of power – in particular hydroelectric – are “dirtier” than others. The impulses are hard on LED products and can “take out” leds along the light strings or rope.
Going forward, you should probably have your friends plug their stars into outdoor rated surge protectors.
You might consider splicing a repair section into one of your stars, plugging it into a surge protector and see if the lights go out again after being continuously plugged in as a test.
We carry Minleon C7 bulbs which have 3 LEDs to the bulb and are the highest quality LED bulbs available on the market. You might consider pairing them with a C7 cord that has tighter than 12-inch spacing.
Hope that helps as you take a look at what has been a frustrating experience. Let me know if you have any questions.
